2 Contact Hour Yoga Alliance CEUs
Yoga offers a unique opportunity to cultivate strength and bodily awareness in the aging body. Since we are ALL getting older, it’s important for yoga teachers to be aware of how a regular yoga practice can benefit bodies throughout life. We all want the strength and flexibility to perform daily tasks with as little pain as possible, but how we cultivate that strength can look very different in a 20-year-old body than in 65 year old one. To make yoga more accessible to all, we’ll examine how age affects our bodies and how the practice of yoga can keep us feeling strong and balanced regardless of our phase in life.
Participants will learn:
- common conditions and contraindications for the older adult yogi
- how to modify traditional poses for the strength and balance needs of seniors
- ways to make older adults feel more accepted and willing to try yoga
- sequencing strategies that work well for an older adult yoga class
